Whether you are a first-time visitor or enquirer, or a member of our Church community, we hope the information provided will be helpful. A summary list of Diary Dates for 2016 can be accessed via this link. For all enquiries about our Church Hall, please do not contact the Vicar, but follow this link. BRING & SHARE LUNCH AT THE VICARAGE Thanks to Revd Martin and Maggie who kindly hosted a Bring & Share Lunch at the Vicarage on Sunday, 31 July 2016. The weather was kind, and everyone enjoyed the good food and fellowship. VICAR'S THOUGHTS Do have a read of the latest 'Vicar's Thoughts', dated 4 August 2016, about 'Luke 12.13-21 & Ecclesiastes' - accessed from the main menu on the left-hand side of this front page. SUNDAY SCHOOL - END OF TERM As Sunday School ended its academic year on Sunday, 17 July 2016, presentations of bibles and diaries were made to several youngsters who were finishing their time in Sunday School. A bouquet was also presented to Helen who, after 10 years as a Sunday School teacher, alongside Nicola, Anne and Jo, is moving on to new things. Revd. Martin thanked all the teachers and helpers for their enormous commitment to the development and wellbeing of all the children in their care. He wished everyone a safe and happy holiday. FRIENDS OF ST. MARY'S CHURCH, RIVERHEAD We would like to start up a 'Friends of St Mary's' group. This would be focused on the church in its role as a community resource, both in Riverhead and Dunton Green. We would look for the group to encourage membership and growth. The group would be seeking to put on concerts, events and other special occasions that celebrate St Mary's historical and heritage value as the centre of community life since it was built in 1831. If you are interested, or know anyone in Riverhead and Dunton Green who would enjoy being part of this, please contact The Vicar and Wardens at or call and leave a message with contact details. TESCOS 'BAGS OF HELP' AWARD TO ST MARY'S Having been awarded a sum of money from the Tescos' 'Bags of Help' scheme (money raised by the sale of 5p plastic bags and the allocation voted on by customers), we are now beginning to see signs in the Churchyard of work being carried out by volunteers from the North West Kent Countryside Partnership. Over the coming weeks they will, amongst other things, be trimming trees, clearing away ivy and brambles and building a living hedge, all this to encourage bio-diversity in the wildlife, and to help to make our Churchyard and surrounds more attractive. The area in front of the Church Hall is already showing signs of attention. Soon other areas will get similar treatment. They will also be building bird and bat boxes, planting wildflower plugs and bulbs, as well as a great deal more strategic clearing and tidying. They will be with us on several Thursdays so do keep an eye open for these industrious folk! Diane Williams HOLY LAND VISIT Having just returned from a Study Tour to Israel, it seems to me that people from St Mary's might like to make a visit in, possibly, 2018? I would be looking for it to be manageable for most people (i.e. not too much walking / inclines etc). I would also be looking to go at a 'comfortable' time of year - not too hot, not too cold (it snows in Bethlehem at Christmas). We would hope to get the cost down under £1,000 per person but it could end up being more due to exchange rates etc. Actual details would be made available much nearer the time. The more who wish to go, the slightly less expensive it might be. Would you please email or ring me if you might like to join in this trip-of-a-lifetime? Just to get an idea of interest and possible numbers. No promises either way - just a feasibility study at the moment. Revd. Martin CONFIRMATION 2016 The Vicar will be holding children's and separate adults' confirmation classes spread over four Sunday afternoons starting from 30th October 2016. These will lead up to a confirmation service somewhere in the Shoreham Deanery on Thursday, 24th November 2016 (evening); details to follow. If you are interested in attending the classes please email or telephone Revd Martin. Please note: there is no commitment to actually going on to be confirmed, so if you are interested just in meeting up and hearing a little bit more about Christianity and what Christians believe then this could be just the thing for you! Revd Martin MOTHERS' UNION - FPW An MU Faith & Policy Watch, August 2016, document is available. You can view the document by following this link. Information about the MU's 140th Anniversary in 2016 has been received - please see our MU page (Church Groups/MU). KF-P Additional information Close info Calendar ? ?
